We, the People of the Democratic Party, Part 1
John Edwards, Where Are You Now?

By Hank Edson
As the number of Americans killed in President Bush’s deceitful war surpasses 4000, this shameful milestone ought to be the Democratic Party’s bully pulpit for a saner, safer, more humane government. On one hand, it ought to be a bully pulpit that speaks for itself. The leadership of the Democratic Party ought to circle the American people around it for a moment of profound and deliberative silence. On the other hand, it ought to be a bully pulpit from which the tragic aftermath of Republican rule of all three branches of government during the majority of Bush’s administration is reviewed with eloquent and angry common sense.
One thing is sure, with 4000 Americans killed by the Republican management of foreign policy, the general election should already be won by the Democratic Party. John McCain’s showing in the polls should be as low as George Bush and Dick Cheney’s approval ratings. He has been their lapdog, after all, throughout their administration. The Democratic Party should be dancing circles around a helpless McCain, giving him a thorough work-over before delivering the knock-out punch. It is March 2008 after more than seven disastrous years of Republican rule. The Democrats should be able to send Dennis Kucinich into the ring and be assured of leaving McCain unconscious on the mat.
To forget this fact for even one second is an injury to the American people. Any talk that proceeds on an assumption that the facts could be otherwise is inexcusable. We voters need to assert our independence on this score. The politicians and the talking-heads have the broadcast strength, but we must remain clear and confident in our own sober conviction that the Republican Party has lost its legitimacy, its honor, and, finally, its cover.
We, the people in the Democratic Party, are the Democratic Party and we are going to register a searing condemnation of Republican rule in the upcoming election. Our elected leaders in the Democratic Party may not have had the integrity to properly condemn such rule through impeachment, but rest assured, whoever the people of the Democratic Party nominate as their champion, he or she is going to kick some ass. I make no excuses here: eloquent and angry common sense, I said, is what this moment calls for.

If you analyse it deeply, John Edwards was the first one to
talk about the policies that Obama and Clinton have now
borrowed from.
So, why not Edwards? He is a southener, smart and electable.
And America is not ready for a black President, nor for another
Clinton, and much less for a woman.
Bush the Manchurian candidate has deliberately laid the country low.
Bush delivered a one two punch. First he sold out our energy
independence to Saudi Arabia. Second he got us in to a protracted
and costly and needless war which necessitated our selling debt
to China. On top of all tha Bush created the largest entitlement
program in history. He has been pissing away our money, our
freedoms and our sovereignty. Oh and by the way, haven't we learned what happens
when the government fails to regulate the banking, thrift and
credit industies? We have seen this movie before
when conservatives got caught with their hands in the cookie
jar on the Savings and Loan scandal. Yes even the home mortgage crisis
can be laid at the feet of Bush/Cheney mismanagement. Moreover, even though we were attacked
on Sept 11th by Saudis, Osama is Saudi, and the homicide bombers
in Iraq are Saudis, Bush's only response is to get on his
knees and beg the Saudi princes to have mercy. And now that
China is brutalizing Tibet, Bush who was so quick to
criticize a worthless dictator in Iraq and begin a war
over things such has Hussein's civil right record, is
scared crapless to say "boo" to China. Why? Well the
fall of Bear Stearns nearly toppled the economy. If we threatened
to boycott the Olympics over Tibet, China could threaten to
call in all their markers on our debt. There would
literally be a run on the bank as other nations followed the
Chinese lead, and we would have the great depression. In
my personal opinion Bush and Cheney can assert Mission
Accomplished in two areas. One: their oil and corporate
buddies have record profits. Two: the foreign masters
who have purchased Bush and Cheney's souls have the US on the brink
of ruin. Heckuva job Dubya. In my opinion.
I disagree about America not being ready for a black president or a woman president. The point I am trying to make, which shall be further elaborated upon in my next post, is that ANY democratic candidate can be president following the travesty of the brainless puppet Bush and the sick people pulling his strings. I did not intend this piece as a serious plee for America to somehow bring John Edwards back into the race, but added his presence just to say: we did have a candidate who kept the focus on the disaster of Republican rule and that was John Edwards. Now as we see the two remaining democrats get exhausted by in-fighting, it would be nice if we could regain the focus Edwards modeled for us.
Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. I don’t usually read much into politics but with the election coming up (not to mention the dem primaries) and everyone going green these days I thought I would leave a comment.
I am trying to find more about the government and if they are going to ratify the Kyoto Protocol any time soon. Has anyone seen this pole on EarthLab.com http://www.earthlab.com/life.aspx . It said 75% of people think the government should ratify the Kyoto Protocol on Earth Day (when I took it). I also saw something on Wikipedia but it wasn’t up to date. Any other thoughts on where the government is going with this?
I am looking for more info on what candidates’ opinions are how are we are going to get closer to solutions. Drop a link of you see anything worth my time.
